Grading is based on a number of take-home exercises during the course (making up two thirds of the grade) and an examination paper sometime after the lectures have ended (making up one third of the grade).

• The examination paper will contain questions that are less suitable for take-home exercises.
• The exam is open-book (but closed-laptop).

The contents of the lectures is similar to the previous years. Notes (in Estonian) covering parts of the lectures can be found here. The coverage of the material in the lectures is mostly based on Doug Stinson's textbook.

News:

• Sep. 14th: I am not in Tartu (or, for that matter, Estonia) from Sep. 17th to Sep. 21st. The lectures, however, will take place as usual; they are given by Jan Willemson.
• Sep. 5th: My laptop no longer showed signs of life. There may be delays in producing the second set of take-home exercises, until I get back the contents of my home directory.

• The lectures in September 18th and September 20th are given by Jan Willemson. I have asked him to tell you about public-key cryptosystems in general and RSA in particular. The last year's slides on these topics are here and here.
• On September 25th and 27th we'll continue with RSA.
• On October 2nd and 4th I was not in Estonia. Jan Willemson gave the lectures about cryptosystems based on discrete logarithms.
• October 9th and 11th. (the slides were last updated at 19:30, October 10th). At October 11th, we may also continue with signing.
• On October 16th, we continue with signing (and hashing). I'll probably write some extra slides.
• Same on October 18th (both continuing and slide-writing).
• October 23rd and 25th.
