Biodiversity & evolutionary history
I am interested in biodiversity above the species level such as phylogenetic or functional diversity. Phylogenetic diversity measures to what extent communities of co-existing species consist of closely or distantly related species. Functional diversity defines if these species have evolved similar or different traits. These measures may help to identify ecological factors that influence small-scale diversity. However, they also refer to large-scale processes such as species diversification and dispersal, and thus give an exciting glimpse of which evolutionary and historical mechanisms may have shaped today´s diversity.

Tropical biology & interactions
I can't deny my 'old love' is tropical biology and ecological interactions. I have studied the effect of tropical forest fragmentation on the bottom-up control of leaf-cutting ant herbivory, and global macroevolutionary principles focusing on the Tropics.
