About

I am an Associate Professor of Smart City Technologies and Head of the Chair at the University of Tartu, where I lead the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Lab. My research lies at the intersection of artificial intelligence, mobility analytics, and sustainable urban innovation, with a focus on transforming large-scale spatio-temporal data into actionable solutions for smarter and greener cities. I hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science from INSA de Rouen (France). My work focuses on intelligent transportation systems, mobility modeling, spatio-temporal data analytics, and applied machine learning. I aim to bridge methodological advances with real-world deployment, supporting evidence-based urban planning and next-generation mobility systems. I collaborate extensively with industry and public-sector stakeholders and contribute to European research and innovation initiatives. I serve as Associate Editor of the Journal of Urban Mobility (Elsevier) and have authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in the fields of smart mobility and intelligent infrastructure. I am also the Programme Lead of the Smart Mobility Data Science and Analytics Master’s programme of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT Urban Mobility), where I contribute to shaping the next generation of mobility data scientists.

Research

My research group (ITS Lab) focuses on data-driven mobility intelligence and sustainable transportation systems. We develop algorithms and analytical frameworks that leverage spatio-temporal data, machine learning, and sensor fusion to understand and improve mobility systems in modern cities. The goal is to design efficient, scalable, and sustainable solutions for mobility modelling, intelligent transport systems, and smart city infrastructures.
