A flexibility measurement was taken in the standing and sitting position. Forward flexion was measured by a gravity goniometer at two points in the standing and sitting position. The instrument was fastened to one side of the chest (midaxillary line) at nipple height. A subject was informed to first bend forward with a straight vertebral column (the first point) which allowed determination the range of motion in the hip joint. A subject then performed a full forward bend (the second point). The difference between the two measures was taken as the flexibility of the vertebral column-spine flexion (vertebral flexion=trunk flexion - hip flexion).
