First Announcement

Dear Colleagues,

We invite you to take part in an international confernece on

Algebra and its Applications,

which is dedicated to the 70th birthday of Kalle Kaarli.

The conference will take place in Tartu, Estonia, on July 18-20, in 2018. It is organized by the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of Tartu.

Professor Kalle Kaarli is one of the most outstanding Estonian algebraists. He has obtained deep results in various fields of algebra, most notably in universal algebra, but also in lattice theory, near-ring theory, Abelian group theory and semigroup theory. He has been the president of the Estonian Mathematical Society and the head of the Institute of Mathematics at the University of Tartu. In July 2018 he will celebrate his 70th birthday.

The conference venue is the building of mathematics and computer science, J. Liivi street 2. This is just 500 meters from the townhall square. The conference website is http://math.ut.ee/aa2018 . On this website you can find a preliminary program of the conference.

The participation fee will be 70 euros. This will cover the cost of conference dinner, coffee breaks, a visit to a museum and conference materials. The exact payment method is not clear yet, this will be announced in the second announcement. We suggest to book your accommodation in Tartu as early as possible, because the hotels are usually full in July. This conference can be considered as a part of our traditional series of spring workshops
(http://kodu.ut.ee/~vlaan/kaariku/). Those workshops have taken place outside Tartu usually in April or May.

If you are interested in participating, please send an e-mail to valdis.laan@ut.ee with the following information: name, institution, do you wish to give a talk. We will have some 50 minutes plenary talks and everybody is welcome to present a 25 minutes talk. The title of the talk and the abstract can be sent later. Talks in all fields of algebra as well as talks about different applications of algebra are welcome. Also, please feel free to distribute the informtation about our conference among your colleagues and students.
