Dear Colleagues,

Our annual algebra workshop is back after a brief hiatus. Specifically, the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of Tartu in collaboration with the Estonian Graduate School in Mathematics and Statistics will be organizing the workshop

"Algebra and its applications"
on May 5-7, 2017.

This annual spring workshop has traditionally attracted mathematicians interested in various areas of algebra such as universal algebra, semigroup theory, group theory, lattice theory, category theory and linear algebra. As always, we welcome talks on applications of algebra in other disciplines, such as computer science, statistics, topology, geometry etc.

The website of the workshop is at http://math.ut.ee/~vlaan/kaariku/. The working language of the workshop will be English.

The participants are given the opportunity to give either a 25-minute or a 50-minute presentation. We ask those who wish to give a talk to send us their abstract prepared using the template file that can be found on the homepage. For presentations, we will provide the use of a laptop computer with a projector, and a whiteboard.

The location of the workshop is still being determined, but it will be within a roughly 75 km circle centered on Tartu, Estonia. We are scheduled to start in the afternoon on Friday and finish at noon on Sunday. Transportation from and to Tartu will be arranged by the organizers.

There is no participation fee for the workshop. If you have any special requirements regarding accommodation, meals or similar issues, please let us know about it in advance and we will do our best to make the necessary arrangements. The costs of PhD students of the graduate school, their supervisors and invited lecturers will be covered by the graduate school.

If you wish to participate in the workshop, please let us know by sending an e-mail including a filled-out registration form (see below). Also, feel free to tell your colleagues or students who might be interested about the workshop. The deadline for registration and sending an abstract is April 17.

If you need further information, you can contact the organizers at lauri.tart@ut.ee or valdis.laan@ut.ee.
