This is an update on the status of the workshop "Algebra and its applications".
As a reminder, the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of Tartu in collaboration with the Estonian Graduate School in Mathematics and Statistics will be organizing the workshop
This annual spring workshop has traditionally attracted mathematicians interested in various areas of algebra such as universal algebra, semigroup theory, group theory, lattice theory, category theory and linear algebra. As always, we welcome talks on applications of algebra in other disciplines, such as computer science, statistics, topology, geometry etc.
The website of the workshop is at http://math.ut.ee/~vlaan/kaariku/. The working language of the workshop will be English.
The participants are given the opportunity to give either a 25-minute or a 50-minute presentation. We ask those who wish to give a talk to send us their abstract prepared using the template file that can be found on the homepage. For presentations, we will provide the use of a laptop computer with a projector, and a whiteboard.
The location of the workshop will be Taevaskoja Puhkekeskus (http://www.taevaskoja.ee/), which is situated near a rather picturesque slice of Estonia about 35 km to the south of Tartu. It is quite well connected to the rest of Estonia in case you want to travel on your own. But we will arrange transportation from and back to Tartu for those who need it.
The workshop is scheduled to start in the afternoon on Friday and finish at noon on Sunday.
There is no participation fee for the workshop. Accommodation in a twin-to-quad room will cost you a total of about 40 euros for two nights (it is a package deal, so the exact cost and room type you get will depend on the number, order and preferences of other participants). All meals, including breakfast, will amount to another 40 euros. The costs of PhD students of the graduate school, their supervisors and invited lecturers will be covered by the graduate school.
There is no participation fee for the workshop. If you have any special requirements regarding the accommodation, meals or similar issues, notify us about it in advance and we will do our best to make the necessary arrangements.
If you wish to participate in the workshop, please let us know by sending an e-mail including a filled-out registration form (see below). Also, feel free to tell your colleagues or students who might be interested about the workshop. The deadline for registration and sending an abstract is April 17, but we will definitely appreciate it if you register earlier than that (you can delay filling out the abstract until the deadline, if need be).
If you need further information, you can contact the organizers at lauri.tart@ut.ee or valdis.laan@ut.ee.
