My research interests

Although I was trained exclusively in Estonian and Finno-Ugric Linguistics, already during my undergraduate studies I became interested in Slavic and Baltic languages and more specifically in the language contact in Northern and North-Eastern Europe. The interest towards language contact guided me later to the Sprachbund-phenomenon, and to the Balkan linguistic area in particular.

Currently, I am interested in the following grammatical (and extra-grammatical) phenomena:

• mood and modality
• evidentiality
• negative and positive polarity
• diminutives and augmentatives
• valency changing mechanisms
• weird effects of language planning
