Hara Submarine Base

Story

Hara submarine base was built by the Russian military between 1956 and 1958 and was used for submarine demagnetisation in order to avoid magnetic sea mines. Submarine would dock and lots of high-power cables were attached to the surface of the submarine. Then electricity would flow through the cables, which decreased submarine's magnetic field.

How to get there?

Hara is located in beautiful Lahemaa national park, 70km east from Tallinn. Open: saturday - sunday: 11.00 - 18.00, although the area is not blocked off, so it possible to visit Hara monday-friday as well.
